Diplomacy for North Korea? I remember Madeline Albright giving Jong that basketball

BY: a.k.a. The Last Columnist

Diplomacy is a waste of time with North Korea. It is just a propaganda ploy to give credit to the future ruling family. I remember Secretary of State Albright giving Kim Jong Il a basketball signed by Michael Jordan back in the 1990's as a symbol of 'engagement'. Brilliant diplomatic move Madam Secretary, a whole lot of good that did. You were given promises that the North would stop nuclear development in exchange for economic and humanitarian aid. North Korea used the aid to brainwash the population into thinking their Great Leader is given these gifts by a world honoring him, that these gestures would convince their Great Leader not to wage war against the world. North Koreans are led to believe they owe their lives to the protection he provides for them, without Kim Jong Il, the Japanese and American Army would be butchering Koreans 10,000 at a time.

What can I really say when I don't have command of an Army? Keep talking the same old double talk dialogue with that band of self prophesying con artists. You only make a deal with Jong's family so they can show the hypnotized masses what has been predicted; gifts for the Great Leader and his Brilliant Comrade son. And they only have to promise not to cross the 38th parallel. There goes another 50 billion American tax dollars that need to be printed on loan from the American population of the 22nd century.

Michigan Employment Outlook: One Year To Election Day

Just as the collapse of the auto industry represents, the Michigan State Fair represents foundations of our past we cannot afford to lose. The elimination of The Michigan State Fair in the Upper Peninsula in 2009 and drastic cut backs to the State Fair in the Detroit area, possibly being cancelled, is outrageous. The wrong State programs are being eliminated. Cut the wages and benefits to State workers (or royal family as the people call them). The supporting taxpayers don't get these benefits and most state wages need to get down to what schleps like us make for a living.

Now Governor Granholm wants to destroy jobs in the Michigan Horse Racing industry. Whether it is 'on track' jobs or family farms in Michigan that relies on the demand generated by the industry. The Governor announced cuts to live racing days at Michigan tracks to cut the expense of the Gaming Commission's responsibilities in my opinion. They forget their jobs depend on tax money collected, on a nationwide simulcast basis don't forget, at these tracks. The live Thoroughbred races at Pinnacle Race Course in Detroit and the live harness horse races at Hazel Park, Northville Downs, and a few others are sent out on a simulcast signal to other tracks around the country and Canada. A small percentage of each dollar wagered at another track is on a 'Take Out' basis, automatically deducted from the pari-mutuel betting pool and electronically sent to the host of the Live Race. That's automatic interstate and foreign investment gone in an instant. Michigan can produce many products in many different ways that can be marketed all around the country. Just give us a chance Governor, put some State and Federal funding into the Michigan State Fair for the sake of cultural development and diversity. Renovate the Michigan Horse Racing industry to increase future revenue prospects. Develop, don't destroy, or just get out of everybody's way.
